President's CornerCome on out! Let's get out of the “cabin”, shake those winter blues and “party” at the Natural Bridge Inn and Conference Center in Natural Bridge, Virginia . But before you do… pay your '04 MDA membership dues. Sign up… (make reservations 1-800-533-1410) for our 28th annual meeting. As some of you may or may not know, I've been transplanted from New York to Florida. As a “biker”, I am acutely aware of some strange “stuff” that seems to affect us more than others. For example, the weather, which is wonderful, but the roads down here in Florida leave something to be desired. They don't really make for good riding, especially for someone like me who is used to great roads in New York State, (i.e. the Adirondacks, etc.). Then there is a stretch of highway here, “Route 595”, that runs a total of 10.6 miles. Here's a scary thought to keep your mind occupied while traveling this piece of road; there are nine (9) different law enforcement agencies that patrol that road, or infest it--- all eager to make you sweat. Florida Highway Patrol (F.H.P.), B.S.O., Ft. Lauderdale police, Plantation police, Sunrise police, Davie police, Department of Transportation (D.O.T.), Marine Patrol --- and P.W.C. (whatever that is?). I'm sure we've all come across or traveled on roads of similar nature. At any rate, it sort of struck me in the realm of absurdity, maybe they're just waiting for the 90 year old drivers who go off the road and “fall” into the numerous canals along the side of the roads (this is a daily occurrence) or for those “headless” driven cars. But you folks need not concern yourselves with this. The ride to Virginia will be great. The roads in Virginia are wonderful and we will be on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Dr Len Cohen has put together an enjoyable and interesting meeting. So come on, get off your “butt” and participate. Enjoy the seminars, the rides, and the camaraderie. Just something to contemplate for us retired people ---when you have nothing to do, how do you know when you're finished? Doc Ed President, MDA |
